Application to become a Friend of the
Infant Feeding Association of New Zealand Trust (IFANZ).

As a 'Friend' of IFANZ you will be joining in solidarity with others who believe in full implementation of the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes and subsequent relevant World Health Assembly resolutions. A 'Friend' also supports infant and young child feeding information that is free of commercial influence.

Friends receive email alerts that include links to website updates, receive information about IFANZ and International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN) activities. Friends are encouraged to monitor the Code and utilise the expertise of IFANZ on any matters related to the Code, it's resolutions and infant and young child feeding.

I endorse the purpose of IFANZ*

To promote the health and well-being of infants and young children and their mothers, in New Zealand and internationally, through the protection, promotion and support of optimal infant and young child feeding practices.

To provide education and information that is free of commercial influence, to enable informed decision-making about infant and young child feeding.

To support full implementation of the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes and subsequent relevant World Health Assembly resolutions.

I endorse the Seven Principles of IBFAN*

  1. Infants everywhere to have the right to the highest attainable standard of health.
  2. Families, and in particular women and children, to have the right to access adequate and nutritious food and water.
  3. Women have the right to breastfeed and to make informed decisions about infant and young child feeding.
  4. Women have the right to full support to breastfeed for two years or more and to exclusively breastfeed for the first six months.
  5. All people have the right to access quality health care services and information free of commercial influence.
  6. Health workers and consumers have the right to be protected from commercial influence which may distort their judgment and decisions.
  7. People have the right to advocate for change which protects, promotes and supports basic health, in international solidarity.

I shall not act on behalf of IFANZ without permission from the Trust*

I shall not accept funds, gifts, donations or sponsorship from manufacturers or distributors of breastmilk substitutes, commercial baby foods, feeding bottles and teats.*
